Last Show of the Summer

Much thanks to everyone who came to see a show this summer. It was great to finish the season at Arts, Beats, and Eats. The weather held and it was wonderful to see so many familiar faces. We’ve enjoyed playing the new songs and getting a sense of which ones are resonating with people and which ones need more drum solos. It would be great to hear from folks about the new tunes we’ve been playing live. Which ones do you like? Which ones aren’t you sure about? Here are some titles to jog your memory:

Black Widow
Manage Abandon (Wally Cox)
Strange
The Drummer
Atticus

We’ve got seven songs in the can for a new record (including some of those listed above) and now that we’ve come off the road (ahem…) we’re looking to working up the last batch and committing them to bits. We’ll post updates along the way and let you know as soon as we can when we’re ready to put something out.

Peace,
Thomas

Low’s music has meant a lot to me a for a long time. Similar to Joy Division, the manipulation of time and space within their music resonates with me in a way that is unique within the world of rock. It’s a great honor to get a chance to play a show with them. I’ve been rehearsing my greeting for the past week. Should be a great show. Here’s the video for their latest single, “Try to Sleep,” from their most excellent new record, C’mon.

Our friend Paul Clemens just released a book called Punching Out about his year chronicling the dismantling of the Budd Plant here in Detroit. Check out his interview on the Daily Show. Later this week we’ll post the book trailer with sounds by AM.

Hey All,

Here’s a holiday jam for your 2010 playlist. It’s available on Itunes and CDbaby but you can check it out here and on both our Facebook and Myspace Pages. Recorded just a few weeks ago at the Tempermill here in Detroit.

We’ll be playing “Promise Me” live at this year’s Sounds and Spirits Holiday Spectacular; the 9th Annual spectacular I might add! The show is Thursday, December 23 at the Magic Stick in Detroit, 4140 Wooward. Lots of other great bands will also be playing their favorite holiday tunes and all the money goes to COTS, Detroit’s Coalition on Temporary Shelter.

In the Studio

AM was back in the studio last weekend recording two songs for the upcoming holiday season. The first song is a cover of the Everly Brothers’ tune “Chistmas Eve Can Kill You,” and the second is an untitled original which will almost certainly NOT feature the words “kill” or “eve” in the title. The boys were at the Tempermill this past Friday to record vocals and cowbell and should be ready to release the two songs after Thanksgiving. Garth is doing the art for the cover.

American Mars will play the annual Sounds and Spirits Holiday Spectacular, curated by our own David Feeny, on Thursday December 23.
